After some consideration we have decided to change the entry requirements for the BWF Level 1 coaching course starting on the 28th of November. There are no prerequisites for the course now; however, if you currently hold a coaching qualification such as BWF Shuttletime that will be of advantage to you in the application process and during in the coaching course.

Badminton South Australia is pleased to announce a BWF Level 1 coaching course in partnership with Badminton Oceanica. The course will take course over 4 days at St Peter's College (55 Hackney Road, St Peter’s 5069). The course will begin at 8:00am on Saturday the 28th of November and conclude on the 24th of January at 6:00pm. Days and times you would be required to attend are:
The course will be conducted by Stuart Rowlands from Badminton Australia. There is no cost for this coaching course; however, if you register for the course and do not attend all four days you will be charged $150.00 (regardless of your pass or fail status). Attendance at all four days of the course is a mandatory requirement.
To register for the course, you will be required to have a current BWF Shuttletime certificate. You will also be required to have current coach registration with Badminton Australia. A successful application is required in order to gain entry into the course, please showcase your badminton coaching background within your application.

Badminton South Australia is excited to announce that Development Officer, Callum Dunk, will be coming to Jamestown. Callum will be working with Jamestown Community School as part of the Sporting Schools program. Whilst in the regional Callum will also visit Port Pirie and work with our club located in Port Pirie. Should be a fantastic week! The trip will begin on the 16th of November.

Callum will be working with Our Lady of the River School as part of the Sporting Schools program. Callum will visit a few other schools in the area to promote the participation of Badminton in regional areas of SA.

Please be advised that the association has included an under 15's event in the Joy Twining and Joan Jones tournament starting on the 3rd of November. Please note there are strict conditions regarding entry.
The conditions include that the event is limited to players who have not been selected in a state junior team at any age level. Players who have been selected in a state team but have not actually participated in it (for whatever reason) may enter the event. Players who have participated in squad training but have not been selected are eligible to enter.
Please be advised the Joan Jones and Joy Twining event will go ahead on the evenings of the 3rd and 4th November and days of the 7th and 8th. The tournament will be spread out more than usual for obvious reasons. All grades are being offered. It is extremely important to read the terms and conditions before entering the tournament. The requests for the tournament to go ahead have been overwhelming, so thank you for all your support, it is fantastic to get competitions back up and running.
The deadline to enter the tournament will be the 1st of November at 11:59pm. No late entries will be accepted.

The board of Badminton South Australia with its associated clubs is in the process of updating its Strategic Plan for the 2021-2024 period. To ensure that the people who care about badminton in South Australia shape its future, especially club members, we are undertaking a survey to better understand the views, aspirations and satisfaction levels of players and other stakeholders.
This survey, which will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete, will inform the draft Strategic Plan about which there will be further consultation in the coming months.
The survey is open for completion from now until the end of October 2020 when the results will be collated and analysed.
Everyone who completes the survey and agrees to join the Badminton South Australia distribution list will go into a draw to win one of four free hours of court hire at WA Satterley Hall.

We currently have 3 board members and the association requires 4 board members to continue operating as we currently are. The association also requires 1 female to be present on the board at all times.

Sporting Schools applications for term 4 has been extended until the 11th of September. If you apply for the Sporting Schools funding please select Badminton as sport of interest so that we can contact you and make a booking. We have lots of coaches who are keen to get involved at the schools before the end of the year.
So far in 2020 we have visited 20 schools through the Sporting Schools funding and we are aiming to reach 30 before the end of the year! Please help us on our mission if you can.

The junior tournament scheduled for the 20th September will not proceed at this time. An updated calendar is now available on this post as well as on the website in the 'Players' section.
Thank you to all of the players who have attended the Junior Development Squad sessions since the middle of July. The program will be continue as it normally is on Monday nights and Saturday afternoons. Monday will continue as normal for the time being, while Saturdays will continue as normal until a Junior Coaching Coordinator is announced to manage and run all junior trainings. Thank you to those who have expressed their interest in coaching.
Sadly due to a lack of interest we have decided to cancel our Shuttletime course we had planned this week in Mount Gambier.
The Board of the South Australian Badminton Association invites you to attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday the 31st of October at 3:00pm. The AGM will either be held at WA Satterley Hall Lockleys or via Zoom depending on the restrictions due to COVID-19. We will advise the location of the meeting closer to the date of the meeting.

Badminton SA is delighted to announce that our Development Officer, Callum Dunk, will be heading to Mount Gambier for a regional trip starting on the 31st of August. The main purpose of this regional trip is to work with Suttontown Primary School using the Sporting School funding. Our trip will also include providing free participation clinics at Melaleuca Park Primary, Truro Primary School and Tension Woods Catholic School.
A Shuttletime course will be conducted on Tuesday the 1st of September in the evening, the time and location is still TBC.
Callum will meet with the Grant Badminton Club in Mount Gambier to meet the members during their Monday night social session. We are looking at holding a Come N Try event at a local sport centre.

Sporting Schools applications for Term 4 2020 are now open. The applications close at COB on Friday the 28th of August. This is going to be the biggest term in Sporting Schools history with extra funding available to make up for the lost time in term 2 due to COVID-19. Badminton SA is excited to announce that Adelaide will host the 2021 Under 15's National Tournament. The tournament will be held from the 25th of September and run until the 2nd of October. This is fantastic news for the assoication in what has been a tough year so far. Make sure you stay tuned to our website and social media pages for more updates about the tournament.
The newly announced 'Junior Development Squad' starts on Saturday the 18th of July and will continue every Saturday and Monday until the end of August. Players are strongly encouraged to attend both sessions each week to continue development and improve fitness levels.

Badminton South Australia is pleased to announce a 'Junior Development Squad' for players aged between 12 and 18. Players who may be interested in future state squad selection are strongly encouraged to attend the sessions. This program is designed to develop future talent and make our competitions of a higher standard.
**This development program is completely seperate from our state programs.
The first session of the program will take place on Saturday the 18th of July 12:00pm-2:00pm at WA Satterley Hall, Lockleys. The sessions will continue Saturday from the 18th of July and every Monday (5:30pm-7:30pm) until the end of August.
The sessions will run for 2 hours each and will cost $10 each.
The program will be run by Badminton SA accredited coach (Saket Angrish) and Development Officer (Callum Dunk). Saket will coordinate the skills and technical training while Callum will incoporate a fitness element into the program. In order for the program to go ahead we need a minimum of 16 players to attend each session.

SA's own Paul Godden was featured in Badminton Australia's newsletter, The Shuttler, as coach of the month. Paul has had a strong involvement in South Australian Badminton for a long period of time. Paul has previously been a board member of SABA and is currently involved with Sturt Badminton Club. Paul has previously been involved as a coach for our representative state squads. Congrats Paul!

As of the 6th of July the showers and changerooms will be available to use at WA Satterley Hall Lockleys. The venue will be cleaned on a daily basis in order to comply with COVID restrictions. The kitchen at Lockleys is still not available at the present time.
